Increasing Vegetable Protein (Nuts) for Future Health

Pin It Now!

A recently published study suggests that girls between the ages of 9 and 15 who regularly consume vegetable protein, particularly peanut butter and nuts, had a reduced risk of developing benign breast disease in early childhood. Risk was particularly reduced in girls with a family history of breast cancer. With all the emphasis on nut-free schools, we have been neglecting this important source of protein and healthy fats. While we can't send nuts to school, I am going to make sure we have some healthy snacks and lunches at home that include nuts. Make sure to avoid hydrogenated fats when buying peanut butter (my favorite brands are Teddy or Smuckers natural peanut butter).

This week we will be increasing our consumption of nuts!

peanut butter and apples

peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

(like these spirals or homemade uncrustables from 100 days of real food)

and maybe a special treat of some 4 ingredient peanut butter cookies!
